These questions from Ruth:
"I am thinking about moving to South Korea. I would like to know how you find it over there and if you can recommend any specific unis or cities. Will visit Korea in the summer when I finish up here to look around." I've already done a post a couple of years back about cities to live in:
I didn't talk about Seoul, but if you are the type that has a need for all things Western and a huge variety of activities/social clubs, then Seoul for sure is the place. Nothing in Korea compares to it. Alternatively, Seoul has a MASSIVE subway system that seems to cover almost 1/2 the country, so as long as you're on the Seoul subway line, it's easy enough to get there on weekends or whatever. Plus, where I live, there is a KTX (bullet train) station, so it's not only easy, but extremely fast to get to Seoul.
As for specific unis? My guess is that there are at least 1000 unis in Korea (Anyone with a stat?), so it's hard to recommend specific ones. For your first uni job in Korea, you'll probably have to take what you can get, and then work your way up in the world to bigger and better. And if you come in summer, it's already too late for 95% of the hiring. Your only chance will be to snap up one of the last minute jobs that had one of the following problems:
1. Extreme disorganization and they didn't get their job ad out until late. I wouldn't want to work for a place so disorganized.
2. Terrible working conditions. They probably tried to hire earlier but nobody would take the position, so they're stuck doing interviews again.
3. A decent uni that just had some people back out at the last minute. You might luck out and get one of these positions.
